BBC NEWS | Technology | Google must divulge YouTube log
Well. I wonder how this will work? If you have watched any copyrighted information on YouTube you can expect a bill...
All Google (owners of YouTube) can give people is an IP address. If you have a dynamic IP address (most ISPs use these) then it's unlikely they will get to you, but if you use a static chances are higher. However...! If your ISP release your information without a UK court order they will be breaching the Data Protection Act so are we infact OK?
For example the video on my profile is an old Milky War advert. It will be copyrighted somewhere I'm sure. I've innocently watched that and added it to my profile here because it makes me smile and reminds me of being young and innocent. Am I going to have to pay for that now? I find that shocking.
What irks me more is that the companies behind this make millions as it is. Are they really losing out by having things on youtube? Isn't it really a good marketing tool for them? Famous people and organisations now have official youtube channels so surely it can't be a bad thing.
Lastly just by watching something on youtube wouldn't stop me buying the video so I'm not sure what the problem is?
End of rant
