Update form the DC - we should be fine now!

In response to your ticket regarding network issues this afternoon, we beleive we have now identified the cause for various network issues and in some cases outages seen today.

Our monitoring has shown an internal broadcast storm which acted as a DoS attack on valid servers, thus consuming valid network bandwidth.

The server which appeared to start the broadcast storm has now been disconnected for the last 25 minutes and the network has remained stable.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we will be speaking with the customer who's server started the storm to ensure this will not happen again.

Please note this affected customers on the hosting network customers servers on other networks would not have been affected.
I will be speaking with them as I feel that this has taken far too long to resolve.

I noticed it was difficult to get into the site at 6.30am this morning. It sounds like they have pinpointed the cause by the look of things.

A couple of things caused the problems today. The main one was that a piece of equipment failed at the data centre. It took far too long to rectify this - at least 6 hours but more like 10 if we go by Disco's times. This was followed by a DoS attack with another server in the DC which crippled the network.

Sorry folks - not much I can do and the lack of timely updates from the datacentre haven't helped.
