Default Netbook, Laptop, Desktop?

Please any advise would be greatly appreciated. My current cyber interface is this very dated desktop and it is so slow that I sometimes think it would be quicker to sellotape any messages to a snail. It also crashes more often than an intoxicated teenager behind the wheel of a Ferrari. So I am looking for a replacement ASAP, the problem is what do I spend my hard earned cash on. Primarily it will be used for surfing, generally wasting time between shifts, but I have to consider my daughters school work and the wretched i-tunes they insist on installing. Somebody suggested a netbook with separate hard drives and a cd drive, but on pricing it up the cost seemed a bit steep. Any thoughts, advice, experiences, good brands, good suppliers ect and I would be eternally grateful. Cheers

As cheap as possible, I'm as tight as a tick R's. About £350-£400 tops.

Have you tried cleaning up your old one rather than spend out on another.I recommend
cc cleaner,it gets rid of the temp files.By the way its free.

A laptop rather than a desktop, definitely. Modern ones do everything their static cousins do these days and have the distinct advantage of being usable anywhere, even on the move.

Not one of those crappy, overpriced Apple Macs, though, unless you're a poseur!

I have a Netbook (Samsung) but it is verrrrrry slow. Being what JBR calls a poseur, but what normal people call sensible, we are very much a Mac family. I have a Mac desktop and love it to bits, both son and daughter have MacBooks. However, they are considerably more than your price range. In our experience, you get what you pay for.

I'd love to know what experience of Macs JBR has.

A laptop sounds like the best compromise. The netbook has too small a screen for everyday use. A Mac would be too great an outlay for your price range. I haven't got a Mac but have succumbed to getting an iPad 2!
