It just shows that there is still a place for typewriters (but not for replying to this thread)!

What a great article, really interesting.

I remember getting someone to type up my BSc project. Thank the Lord for Tipex!

Yes that was very interesting, but I've never liked typewriters....messy things!

It's rare I read an article in it's entirety from beginning to end. I really rather liked that!

In fact it's tempting to get a typewriter so I can get rid of this damn contraption. (not that that will ever happen as I quite like them. When they work!)

I had a toy typewriter when I was a kid and I loved it.
(it was functioning typewriter but designed for kids use)
There was something satisfying about typing things onto a blank piece of white paper,
but when an employer said I had to have proper typing lessons I absolutely hated it,
and stopped typing for years. Now I find my two fingered method of typing suits me down to the ground.

Now for an embarrassing story.

When I was 12, I was bored one day so I entered a story writing competition in my sister's barbie comic, the prize being a pink petite typewriter and assorted accessories, so I filled it in and sent it away using the name of my 8 year old sister. She came second. I wonder did the winner cheat also? Or was I at 12, less clever than the average 8 year old? Cheats never prosper

Great story Amy.

Okay- so this story involves a computer, but read on...

Someone I know was doing some work with Saab UK. The company were sending out a mailshot to all the owners of the top of the range model, the 9000 Griffin.

Someone else from the advertising company they had employed was checking over the mail list and for reasons best known to himself made some alterations, intending to delete any changes made. The latter never happened so a few hundred owners received a glossy brochure and an accompanying letter which started

Dear Rich Fat Griffin Owner.

More difficult to do that with a typewriter!
