Default Help someone please

I have my laptop back...good you may think...NOOOOOO

Comet have installed a new hard drive. I need to re-install office 2003 but when I tried I got the message installation source corrupt. Does that mean there is a problem with the disk if so what is the solution?

The other thing is where are the files that were on there that I asked to be rescued? Do I need to go back to comet and talk to them?

Another thing is how do I get the wireless back?

This link might help the Office 2003 problem mainly the bits quoted
"Installation source has been corrupted" error message when you install Office 2003

Reregister the Msxml3.dll file
Reregister the file Msxml3.dll. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type the following : Regsvr32.exe MSXML3.DLL, and then click OK.
If the Msxml3.dll file is successfully registered, you receive a message that is similar to the following:
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSXML3.DLL succeeded.

Repair Internet Explorer
To repair your installation of Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Double-click Microsoft Internet Explorer version.
4. Click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
I would have expected them to restore the files to the original locations - you you have any folders in C:\ like resuce or backup? Might be worth checking with them to see where they put them (assuming that they did).

Wireless will need to be set up again so if you have the the information/CD that came with your ISP it might be worth running that again. If not I can post instructions on how to set it up manually.

Many thanks Adam I'll let you know how I get on. Matt always used to sort these things for me but as you know he's back in Canterbury. Time I learned to do these things myself anyway.

I get this a lot from customers that have previously gone to PC World / Curry's / Comet. They find their hard drive has been wiped with no back up of data. Of course it's the easiest and fastest method as the stores get maximum profit with as minimum amount of time on the repair. Myself, I always try to back up the files and other data first. If the hard drive was faulty though, they may not have been able to get the data off the machine without using a specialist data retrieval service, and they cost a lot of money.

It doesn't sound like they have done a very good job of re-installing your software on the machine and I would go back to them.

I've put the laptop to one side now and am going to cheer myself up by making that cherry cake.

Back in a bit.
