There was a programme on the BBC last Sunday, "Country File" I think, which showed that peas are frozen within a couple of hours of being picked. Frozen peas are much fresher than any pod peas, or tinned for that matter, and are fantastic for cooking on their own or making into other dishes like Rice and Peas (Ainsley Harriot's "Ting and Tings") or pea soup.
We always have a bag of frozen peas in the freezer (where else) and never buy pod peas, and rarely tinned ones. The other better frozen than fresh is Sweet Corn. These vegetables start converting the sugar in their make up into starch very soon after they are picked. Hence, the quicker they are frozen the better the sugar content.
