Default Thread Closure

I note that Adam closed the thread on the Proms because he felt it was going nowhere. I must say that it was going off topic very fast, however, the sentiments expressed by members were entirely right and proper. Obviously as owner of the site he has the last word in what is or is not allowed...but I do feel that we are going down the long slippery road of 'political correctness' when our views and opinions are curtailed in such a peremptory way.
One doesn't achieve very much by gagging such views and opinions. They will continue to resurface as the membership gets more and more angry at what is going on in this once beautiful country of ours. I stress the word 'ours'...not theirs.....OURS.

The sentiments are right and proper in your opinion. Not so in mine.

There is no political correctness here. Only common sense and also ensuring I don't end up in court!

Threads are very very very rarely locked. Peoples posts are very rarely moderated. I only do so when I think it is necessary and the underhand racism (as I see it) currently on the site disguised as arguing against being PC is unacceptable.

As I've stated in the thread I'm not saying I agree or disagree with what has been said.

Incidentally as posted I have said Jezer can start the thread again if he so wishes.

I will let this thread run its course so everyone can have their moan.

Thread moved to feedback as it isn't Current Affairs related.

No doubt others will have their say here but the overwhelming majority of members would, I suspect, agree with me that those sentiments are indeed 'right and proper'.

No one in their right mind however would wish to see you, or indeed anyone, in court.

You described views currently being promulgated on GC as underhand racism. Well, if it's racist to seek to defend what I and many others hold dear...the continuance of Great Britain as we knew it before the PC and Loony Left brigade began to hold sway..then you can call me, and probably others here, racist.

Arky ..... I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly.

If wishing to preserve the British way of life as I know it causes me to be labeled a 'racist' among certain PC members of our society, then so be it. It's people of that ilk that are behind the downfall of this country.

Remind me never to have an opinion on GC again. I shan't even trouble myself or waste my time by finding and posting anything new, only answering what has already been posted, through gritted teeth of course.

Naughty girl Sarah!

It seems to me that there is a confusion by "some" people between the words "Racist," and "Nationalist." I would like to state for the record that I am a Nationalist, through and through... Having a sense of pride in ones own country and heritage is not wrong. Going to another country and trying to change their ways to fit in with your own, is.
When in Rome, etc etc.

For the record I agree with you.

Perhaps some need to think more about what they post so it comes across as being proud about their country rather than seeming racist.

I also hold this country very dear to my heart. I have great pride in not only being British but also being English. However I'm capable of having discussions with people without resorting to 'them' and 'us' and blaming 'them' for this and that. It is quite clear that in these threads 'them' has not been directed at the government but anyone who isn't a national.

To reference the most recent thread the issue here surround the proms was made by one person - Margaret Hodge. One of 'us' not one of 'them'. Everyone has disagreed with her, including the government.

This therefore is unnecessary. It offended not only myself but others. It may surprise people to know that I don't really intervene unless someone expresses concern or complains. Many things I see on the forum I don't like or agree with and stay quiet as I wouldn't want to abuse my position as admin. I also try and make a note publicly without mentioning anyone so apologies for quoting you here Sarah to make my point.

I would like to know just who these 'others' are that have been offended, as looking back at my original posting, NO ONE has complained at what I said, in fact quite the opposite.

You may find that people complain via the PM system to a mod or mostly directly to myself.
