.............. are they the same?

I have noticed "departed" under a few members names.

As far as I recall it can be the same but not necessarily.

Some people asked to be removed, and were put as departed.

Point is they're not here, so life carries on.

A few of the departed members seemed to be regular contributors to the forum.

Yes.

I have been going through some old threads and a lot of the posters are now departed or guests.

Lots of things happen in life and circumstances change. People move on with there lives and feel they need to break away from forums so that they can concentrate on other areas of their lives. In some cases they ask to be removed from the member-base to avoid temptation Suzigirl and Shell are examples of this. Amy-Hols has other commitments outside of the Internet now and doesn't post as heavily.

I'm not sure how guests are posting though, you should be signed in as a member to do that. I'll look into it.

I didn't say guests were posting.

Some posters on old threads are now showing as departed or guests was what I said.

If it's of any use to you, with the forum software I use, when an account is deleted at the user's request any posts they made before this happened then show as guests, although my permissions do not allow guest posting, and I assume the same sort of thing happens here. There are more than one way to remove a person, they can be moved into a different user group with different permissions so they can't post, this can be called anything you want, deleted, banned, departed or something else. But on mine if you remove an account permanently all their previous posts show as guests. Please note I am not speaking on behalf of GC I am only giving general information based on the software I use. I hope that it helps and doesn't confuse matters any further!

And with regard to my outside commitments, it's true I don't have as much time as before but I'll always visit and contribute whenever I can
