Middle 'un & Little 'un always used to follow their grandad round his garden when they were little. They still do when they're down there & the weather's good. They've got more of an idea than I do. If I get plants to put in the garden there's usually one or both of them there to help out doing it. They then regard those plants as theirs & make sure they are growing ok.

Hi oldhammer_lb, I love my Garden, and I have just this morning put away my
tubs away for the winter, and the spring shrubs have started shooting up already, in the garden, which is the size of a postage stamp by the way, I use up every bit of space I have, in the area that I live in we entered for the first
time Britian in Bloom, Highly Recommened Certificate, not bad I think from people, who are disabled, in some way or another, so any tips you have will be greatly approved. ELshevia.

Elshevia,
Well done for entering Britain in bloom, how did you fare ?
Ive never entered my garden in competitions but my parents have.

What i usually do with my pots for winter is i wrap the pots in bubble wrap to save the roots from heavy frosts it works a treat.. then i put them in a corner of the garden till spring.
My shrubs have new growth too but with the mild weather we have in autumn now just means the new shoots will be frost damaged but they usually re grow in spring.

oldhammer_lb, I have not got enough room in my little garden to put anything in a corner, it is only 4 steps long and about 8 steps wide, and I have lived here nearly 5 years and hav'nt found a corner yet, "Joke".
and I personally have not won anything I live in sheltered accomadation, because my sight is nearly gone, but where I live there are 26 Bunglows so we all did our gardens by ourselves and entered in a I think, in a special disabled
branch, and we won a Highly Recommended Award, which was very good, because we did work hard, but then I always thought hard work, had its own rewards. Elshevia.

I hope you continue to enjoy your garden Elshevia.

With your sight going, which I'm very sorry to learn, do you go for plants which stimulate the other senses, like touch and smell?

Sorry, the only thing I cannot do now is digging, and losing my sight does not worry me, and it is not going to stop me either, I go about as I like the only I regret is having to give up my car, heh thats a good starter for a discussion
thanks Elshevia.

Well done Elshevia for your Highly Recommended Award

your right it does have it's own rewards i feel tired out after an half an hour in the garden but inside i feel brilliant its really is good for the soul, already i can't wait for spring once again so i can get out there to prune and so on, i have to be careful as i have a heart condition but even so i can't give up my garden.
