Default Houseplant

I want a houseplant to put on my windowsill.
It will have to like full sun as the window is south facing but also not mind being cold at night (as it will be behind the drawn curtains)
any suggestions please

Any sort of Flowering Cactus should do the job-and the flowers are pretty.

Try this, red.

BTW, I had a nice chilli plant growing on the kitchen windowsill. Think it was called Medusa, with nice red chillis that you could use for cooking.

Just don't let it get too wet or too dry-even I can manage 1 of these

You could also try a begonia or an impatiens (busy lizzy). Both produce flowers over a long period if you keep picking off the dead ones.
