Default Anyone else here...

Researching their family tree.

I started in 2000 and have been like a dog with a bone.

I've met rellies over the net and found some very sad stories out.

Hi Marnie,

My uncle is heavily into our family history - he has gone back really really far (talking centuries) and we know that we started in a tiny little fishing village in the North West of Scotland. Very interesting stuff and I'm getting more interested in it as I get older

Well Adam, don't leave it too long, talk to any rellies you are able to about their past, although you can never guarantee what they tell you is 100% it's always worth doing.

Also make sure nothing is thrown out, such as certificates family papers and photos.

So much has gone from my family over time and it costs £7 per certificate now.

A costly hobby I'm afraid but so rewarding.

I was very luck nearly all my lot either had unusual names or lived in small villages. I've done the easy stuff (1910 back to about 1770), which you can do online or in the local libraries. I just need to find the time for a few away days to places further away.

I'm adopted and have often wondered who my "real" parents are... I discussed this with a very close friend recently and I think I will try to trace them sometime soon. I'd like to know who I really am and where I came from.

I have a long way to go before I can start looking at distant past family members Marnie but thank you... I have to approach immediate family members to have more information to proceed... I'm very scared to take this further to be honest but I feel I should and must

now this is very interesting

on my mum's side, going back a long time, the family was very rich and owned property in Argentina and the South of France and lost everything through gambling

on my dad's side, nothing as he never knew his parents unfortunately

i have a distant cousin who played for Chelsea in the 70s

every family has its own stories-all i know is that we are from South London-Clapham and Lewisham

In the last few days I've come up with ancestors back in the 1680s. I'm now hitting the proverbial brick wall. Gonna have to vist the County Records Office and do some grave-spotting. No royalty sadly, they were all Ag. Labs. More than willing to assist anyone doing research.
