No not impossible, but probably a bit more difficult. Start with your birth cert.

You will have names of your mother and father, plus your mothers maiden name.

From then if you can get your mum and dads marriage cert that will take you back as their fathers names will be on there.

I would have a rummage and see what papers you have already and write down any details you find and then go from there.

Certs are £7 each so it's not a cheap hobby.

There are several of us on here who research so just give us a holler and we'll see if we can help you.

Good luck.

Thanks i only have my birth certificate thats it.
Im part Irish/Greek/Aborigine so very curious, none of my family are in England as far as i know and im not in touch with any.
I'm a bit worried about opening a can of worms but it would be good for the kids to know where they come from especially.

There are loads of online overseas sites that have indexes etc.

Give it a go.

You could always join a family tree forum and get some help too.

Hi Anneri, try joining Genes Reunited. I think it's about £9 per year.. You can construct your own tree on there and you'll be amazed at the amount of help which people on there and on other sites will give you. There's a load of Australian members for your Aborigine past too.
For starters since, as you say there's no family in the UK, you'll have to rely on your memory but all of us peeps here who are into this will help you in any way we can. Just ask. Please, it will be our pleasure.

Arky sorry to butt in, Genes isn't so good now it's £9.95 for 6 months for new members too. Lots of people complaining about it now ITV have taken it over.

You could try rootschat it's free and loads of people on there willing to help.

Oooooops, thanks for that Marnie...Haven't renewed since early this year. Wondered why the site kept going to an ITV site when downloading. They'll lose a lot of members if they dont reconsider...me too.!!

If you renew it should still be £9.95 for the 12 -at the moment anyway - if you leave and then wait a month or so to renew its only for 6 months.

They have changed all the message boards a lot harder I think to navigate now. They weren't much cop to start with but they haven't improved things with the upgrade at all.

Still lots of glitches too that people aren't happy with.

Agreed Marnie. There were so many complaints earlier this year about the alleged updates. It still is not good but they don't seem to take any notice of the consumers complaints..Well, they will when they lose their members.
