Broadband Speedtest on ZDNet UK

Are you sure it didn't say 4.56 Mbps at the right hand side of the box where the red bar is? If you only have 456 Kbps that is 0.456 Mbps and that isn't broadband speed. The horizontal bars which are above the test speed area show what various download speeds are from a 56Kbps modem to 8 Mbps broadband. See how your speed is indicated compared to the example bars.

The speed varies not just from day to day but also from minute to minute. If you retest several time in succession you'll find you get different answers. The best thing is to just ignore the whole scenario and keep surfing in complete ignorance of what your particular speed is. If you are happy with the way things are then that is all that matters.

Just watch out for those BT Openreach vans they seriously affect you download connection speed even if you are not with BT. My home speed dropped from 2000KBPS to 512KPS (both tested) overnight. The reason? BT installed a multiplexer (connection sharer) at the exchange without telling anybody. I complained to my provider who assures me that they have complained to BT but over a year later no change.
