Default Discount Supermarkets.

I found this article very interesting.

What are your experiences of these stores?

We do quite a bit of our shopping at Aldi. As well as the better prices, the majority of their products are pretty good too. They also do some 'specials' on goods from tools to computers, all at reasonable prices.

I have to hold my hands up to being a supermarket snob.

Sainsburys, Waitrose.. Tescos if I must and Asda on the rare occasion.

However I know full well I have been mis informed about Aldi. Before I moved I used to do a fair bit of shopping in one (I went in to see what it was like). I was impressed with price and things like milk, bread and veg were local. They weren't shouting about it but it was and I liked that.

Nothing wrong with Lidl. They don't have all the overheads which the more "superior" Supermarkets have, neither do they have posh shelves and stuff. However, the vegetables are good quality and low cost as are most of the cooked meats, tinned products and beers and wines. Some of the wines are very good and, again, low cost compared to Sainsbury's or Waitrose etc. They also do various other non food items. For example, I bought a great Mandolin Food Slicer with three attachments for crinkle cut veggies and julienne sliced stuff as well as the standard sharp slicing blade. The thickness can be varied and there are two vertical cutters for longitudinal cutting before slicing. Total cost £5.99. I also bought a cross cut shredder which takes credit cards, CD's and paper, including paper clips and staples, for £19.99. Just have a look at what they have on offer at http://www.lidl.co.uk and make your own mind up.

We shop there for our regular shopping trip along with Lidl. Morrisons are fine and much of their stuff is low cost but we went to Lidl last Thursday and bought a nice bright cauliflower for £0.34. The same sized cauli at Morrisons was £0.83, over twice as much. Morrisons have higher overheads than Lidl so I can see why the price was higher. Don't get me wrong, we like Morrisons and it is our main Supermarket for many items but the low cost Lidl's and Aldi's are also great if you don't mind shopping in a basic shopping area.

so that would be a cauliflower cheese for 4 for a quid or if you wanted loads of cheese topping and extra sauce with an onion thrown in oh and a bit of sweetcorn is nice then you are looking at 2 quid
