Default Mobile Phones

One nice thing in this Forum is that there are people of all ages taking part.
So

I was wondering what value you put on your mobile phone and why.
Is it on all day?
Do you use it a lot?
Can you do without it?
Is there anywhere you turn it off?
Do other people's phones bother you?
Do you think it is a new way of letting people know that you are loved/important?
Do we all talk too much now, what with Internet and phones?
Is this a good thing? Are we ignoring what is around us?
Has your phone helped you at any time, like in an emergency?
Any funny stories about mobile phones?

Is it on all day?

Yes (and night)

Do you use it a lot?

Medium use

Can you do without it?

Ermm, can you do without your arms?!!

Is there anywhere you turn it off?

Holiday. Off for most of the time. Anything else it goes on silent or Airplane mode.

Do other people's phones bother you?

Yes, normally stupid ring tones or people who speak really loudly into them. Yes the person might be far away but they are on the phone too!!

Do you think it is a new way of letting people know that you are loved/important?

I think it is a way of sending that message but it is the content of the message that lets people know if they are loved/important

Do we all talk too much now, what with Internet and phones?

Nope. I don't really talk that much on my mobile. I think the internet is the curse of people being able to have a proper verbal or written conversation. And remember, it's good to talk!

Is this a good thing? Are we ignoring what is around us?

I try not too.

Has your phone helped you at any time, like in an emergency?

Calling 999. Stopped someone's brain being mushed.

Any funny stories about mobile phones?

Can't think of any!

Excellent subject, SP.

The mobile phone is a tool, and is only as good or bad as the person using it.

For Farmers, this has been voted the most useful tool in a long time.

From my perspective it can be the most irritating tool ever, and I am sure that is the case for so many stuck on public transport with a 'person' who has to talk loudly.

I have one- very few do not- and when I use it in public I go to a quiet spot and speak softly.

My mobile is on all the time. I only turn it off if I'm going into like say the doctors/dentists/hospital, the rest of the time I silence it if I'm somewhere where it could cause a problem. I tend to use it most for texting, rarely for calling someone. Otherwise it's not used that much. I couldn't do without it as it's one of the numbers that my childrens schools have on the incase they can't reach me at home on my landline, as well as family/friends trying to get hold of me.

I choose not to text.

If I get a message which normally involves my Daughter's activities, I insert the message 'Thank you very much.'

Mobile is very useful thing but i don't like when people calls me specially when I am doing some important work. It really sucks. I agree with you Jezer it is the most irritating tool ever but some times it can be the most useful tool ever. depends on time.

I'm with you Evie...I keep looking at it and thinking that I should find a use for it but blowed if I can think of one!
Mine does pick up radio though and that's nice in the park. It also has a GPS thingy but by the time I have set it up I have become completely lost!!
However the few times I have used it as a phone, it has been really useful. Texting is too much like hard work when I can talk to someone properly...
I think they can easily become social naggers too if you are worried that you aren't popular enough to be talking all the time to someone. It can make you feel like a Billy No-Mates. Silly reallly...I like talking to people in the privacy of my own home and not where everyone can listen in!!
