The joys of winter
Is it just me or have there been more bugs going around than usual this winter?
I've never known so many people going down with this or that, including myself. I usually get through winter with one cold but this year i had a cold, then flu, then another cold which just as i think has passed, comes back with a vengeance, aaachoo! i'm getting the vitamins down but this one just won't go away.

With great respect, Tele, if you'd had real flu, you'd have been hors de combat for 5-6 weeks. You wouldn't have been capable of anything..even getting out of bed to go to the lavatory would have been a challenge. The OH and I had it about 5 yrs ago and neither of us would want to repeat the experience.

In answer to your question Tele, I saw this site which said that the number of people affected by bugs such as Norovirus is statistically no different from recent years- maybe they're all bad!
I go along with Arky on the flu bit. I don't know what hit you. I can only say that if one really gets the flu then that person is capable of pretty much nothing.
I'm over fifty, and I got it once when I was about twenty. Blinkin heck- was I delerious!
GPs talk about the £10 test to differentiate between a cold and flu.
A £10 note is dropped on the floor. If you can pick it up you have a cold.
That all said, a number of people I know have not been well, and best wishes to you.

I've only ever had the proper flu once and I agree you definitely know the difference once you have experienced the real deal.

i agree that people often get confused between the flu and a heavy cold-they are light-years apart and i had the flu in 2004 and i was off work for 6 weeks-not an experience i would wish on my worst enemy
at work there are quite a few people sniffing and sneezing but so far i have been okay-usually, when i get a cold i take nothing and it will just go in it's own time-i suppose it depends on your own immune system if you are going to go down with anything this time of year when this sort of condition seems to be more prevalent

I must be lucky as I don't get colds and I can't remember having flu for years. I even turned down the flu jab when my doctor offered it because everyone I know who's had it always seems to get ill.
When I was working I used to get really annoyed by people who rushed off to buy over the counter remedies whenever they got a runny nose claiming they had the flu. As has been said real flu will put you out of commission good and proper.

Last time I had a flu jab I felt rough for two-three weeks. I turned it down this year. With regard to colds...if you treat them with medicines etc. they last a week...if you do nothing, they last a week. Take your choice.

Well, don't want to gloat, but this winter has been my healthiest yet (so far)!!!!
I've hardly been ill at all. I think I had one day feeling poop, but apart from that, I've been fit as a butchers dog!

Lucky you-Winter needs to be colder than it has been that's for sure, otherwise I wouldn't have the problem I have now

lol my immune system must be shot then. I know what you mean about people crying wolf every time they sneeze, it is tiresome. It has been quite mild so far this winter and i thought that maybe that helped spread the bugs around.
