Default Hello all
I'm a 41 year old guy who is currently working in the United Arab Emirates. TV is crap here so when I'm not doing something with the kids I enjoy a good discussion.

What are you doing there?
I used to live in Dubai & Abu Dhabi, due to my dad's work.
Bloody hot but awesome beaches! I also spoke some Arabic, but I prefer French.

But hay welcome!

I retired from the British Army last year and got a job out here working for a Defence Consultancy. Its really hot at the moment (45). I live in Al Ain which is nice (its part of Abu Dhabi but nearer Dubai). Kids love it out here.

I don't miss the UK weather or prices, the quality of life is excellent (as are the tax free wages) but I do miss decent (not american) TV, watching the news, moaning about politics and chip shops and I hate the inefficiency of everything here.

Yeap ! I remember the dire road system, when you leave the major roads!
Indeed life is nice, but for me the heat is a bit too much. I used to stay indoors most of the time. They must be starting the having advertising for the Dubai festival which lasts months!

Al Ain is a tiny place but with no beach! I have been there and couldn't stand it. I personally love rain and hate the heat. But as I said, the beaches were fantastic!

Do you speak the language?
