Default Energy bill error drives 84 year old to attempt suicide

War veteran, 84, in suicide bid after energy firm hounded him for £6,600 that he didn't owe | Mail Online

This story made me so angry. They break into his home, because they think he is in arrears, and install a pay as you go meter without demonstrating how it works to him. Then after 3 cold nights because the power is cut off the poor old boy take 100 tablets to end the misery of his torture.

Only then is an investigation launched which finds:-

He was never in arrears because the original meter was incorrectly wired
The Pay as you go meter was incorrectly installed and didn't work properly.

Yes he tried contacting EON but we all now how much use call centres are.
But for EON to say they had no idea of his age or condition is rubbish. His date of birth is on the form he filled in you jackasses

I wonder had the chap died would there be a case of Corporate manslaughter to answer. Oh I forgot that's like the rear seat belt law....... no case has ever been brought.

Quite right that you feel angry living in the police state that we do.

Once again the way we treat our own disgusts me. Economic Migrants pretending to be seeking asylum are treated better in the UK than a guy who has actually served the nation. Still all is OK - they did offer sincere apologies to the customer and his family. Sincere my a**e.

EON have been told that they must write off the £6,600 arrears and pay £500 compensation. Big Deal. Apparently he is having to take Court action to recover the amount he has overpaid (£10,000). I hope he remembers to claim for his 3 hour phone bill to the call centre!

As you say Jez a Police state but how I'd love to see the Police dragging a few 'suits' from their offices to answer for their actions.

I'm so outrage about this, that I cannot (at the moment) find any words to describe the way I'm feeling.
It doesn't surprise me in one way because the government treats old citizens like shat and these private companies feel they can do exactly the same.

Gordon Brown and every other MP of whatever party should rot in their beds by the way they treat old folks..this man was fortunate to survive, but how many pensioners need to die before something is done.?

But, of course the family saviour Brown who dishes out benefits left, right and centre to people who have a house full of sprongs and encourages a generation of thick idle barestwards..he forgets that we have a generation that he conveniently ignores, until he remembers to rob them every day.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhh god I'm so angry
