Thee is obviously nothing further to be gained by any further discussion. You certainly give the impression that you think the Palestinians are badly treated and that we should give them help, £30 million, and not put that money into Britain.

I never accused you of being a terrorist - just misguided in your symapthies.

I always find that I'm split in things like this. I do believe that we should help less well off countries but, at the same time, often think that we could spend the money here, on ourselves.

I suppose it could be argued that the later is quite selfish. OK things here aren't perfect (and they never will be) but we are in a much much better position than many and we could help make a difference.

The whole business of foreign aid and the Palestinian question is a minefield. Much of it is complicated political manouvering and gets more complicated when the religious angles come into it. I am heavily in favour of charity beginning at home - we pay the taxes which fund foreign aid and consider that being open handed to people who wouldn't normally give you the time of day is wrong. As for the political implications in the Middle East nothing constructive has happened in the last 30+ years and I don't expect it to get better soon. Nothing either Lar or I say will alter that and the discussion got more heated than it should have. For my contribution I aplogise. Sometimes my nationalistic tendencies control my "pen".

Things do seem to be complicated by politics and religion (well it is the root of all evil!)
