Default Yorkshire Day 2008

Today, 1st August 2008, is Yorkshgire day. For the first time we Yorkshire folk can fly our own flag without having to have permssion from a Local Authority. We now have two flags but only one which can be flown without prior permission. There are also two variations of the Blue Background, one which is Light Blue and the one in this flag which is a darker blue. My Avatar shows the lighter blue version.

The Alternative Yorkshire Flag, which many prefer, shows the red cross, associated with St George, which is offset to be similar to the Scandinavian Flags showing an associaton with the Vikings etc.

To all Yorkshire men & Women - Have a Great Yorkshire Day

The Lancashire Flag wanted a white background but it was refused due to a Red Rose on a White Background belonging to Montrose, in Scotland. The Lancastrians had to settle for a yellow background.

Reminds me of the discussion on the radio the other day about a symbol for Essex being cutlasses or sea axes. Somebody rang in and said that the symbol should be a pair of crossed white stillettos. Then somebody else rang in and asked where they were going to find a pair of crossed stilletos in Essex.

I'll get my coat

I was in North Yorkshire this morning, and had been there for a week, and didn't know the significance of today- didn't see a single flag on my journey south.
