Today, 1st August 2008, is Yorkshgire day. For the first time we Yorkshire folk can fly our own flag without having to have permssion from a Local Authority. We now have two flags but only one which can be flown without prior permission. There are also two variations of the Blue Background, one which is Light Blue and the one in this flag which is a darker blue. My Avatar shows the lighter blue version.
The Alternative Yorkshire Flag, which many prefer, shows the red cross, associated with St George, which is offset to be similar to the Scandinavian Flags showing an associaton with the Vikings etc.
To all Yorkshire men & Women -
Have a Great Yorkshire Day
The Lancashire Flag wanted a white background but it was refused due to a Red Rose on a White Background belonging to Montrose, in Scotland. The Lancastrians had to settle for a yellow background.
