I don't find the resistance to the Metric Sytem bemusing. The Imperial Weights and Measures which we used to learn at school were not as precise as Metric but were just part and parcel of the British way of life. They were traditional and shouldn't be kicked to one side because working in 10's and 100's etc is easier. (Bring back pennyweights and grains

) Having said that I worked for over 40 years in Laboratories where Metric was the day to day system we used so metric volume and weights gave me no concern when they were introduced - I had been using them for years. The only Laboratory which used anything different to Metric was the Gas Board. They used to work in "Grains per 100 cu ft of Gas" and "BThU's" etc, all very Victorian.
Oh, and I'll join you in a pint, or 573 ml of great British Bitter, Pedigree from choice.
