Default Man loses job for slapping his teenage daughter

Father loses career after slapping unruly daughter - Telegraph

I'm not going to debate the rights and wrongs of what he did as we all know apparently it's never the child's fault these days. I just find it a little concerning that her first recourse was to march down the Police station and press charges. To me it suggests a slightly disfunctional family. I do wonder where this will end. In future if you ground your kids will that be classed as 'unlawful imprisonment'?

The world has gone too far the other way now with regards smacking children at home or by teachers at school, so this doesn't surprise me. I still think some corporal punishment within reason is necessary both at home and at school. There is a big difference between a smack and physical violence!

Exactly the point I keep trying to make when folk start talkng aboout holiganism and yobbish behaviour. When I was a kid the local Policeman was known to give you a clip round the ear and if you told your dad you got another one from him. Solomon and his "spare the rod and spoil the child" has never been more true than today. There is a big difference between a smacking for some misdemeanor and thrashing someone within an inch of their life. It never did me any harm when I was young and you learned to respect authority. (I will now go into a corner and have a nervous breakdown from the mental anguish which past corporal punishment causes me from time to time)

Completely agree people wonder why kids are growing up the way they are that's because they get away with murder, my two are at that age where they are testing just how far they can push me, so i put them on time out, i take away there toys, put the cartoons off, the result being they just laugh at me they just don't care, iv'e even been called into the nursery twice with daughters behaviour, and although they are only 4 and 3 i can see they have absolutely no respect whatsoever for anybody, i think a good smack on their backsides would show them just who is in charge around here, but of course you can't, so what do you do it diden't do me any harm and it was a belt my dad took to my backside.
