BBC NEWS | Magazine | Does disability hate crime exist?

I really hope that this report is an exaggeration

I wish it were an exaggeration Sooty but unfortunately I don't think it is. I am reading lately of more disabled people being mugged and attacked by young yobos than I can remember in the last year. I think it is because a person with a walking stick or in a wheelchair is easier to attack than a person who is not disabled or infirm.

The area where I live has a very high number of pensioners, many of whom are either using electric scooters or have aids to walking. We regularly have cases where these people are mugged for their pension or are just pushed out of their scooters for "fun". It seems to be a sign of the times.
