BBC NEWS | UK | 'Heart attack' halts Glitter trip

This was brought up on another forum i use about the right to know if a sick get like him moved into your area, do you feel like you had the right to know. It is easy with glitter as he is famous, but what about the avarge guy who is known and moves to another part of the country, no body is made aware of it except the authorities, and they live amongst us and we are blind to them until something terrible happens.

Would you let him or any others like him back into the country to have a free reign. I am interested in responses to this to see if the mentality of humans is much the same or does it differ alot depending on where you live..

I would leave the sh*t where he was and let them deal with him.or throw him out the plane over iran and let them use him for target practice.IMO

I don't think we have a choice. If we as a country wish to deport other nationals who commit crimes here then we must reciprocate.

Anyway last I heard (7am this morning) he was feigning a heart attack and wouldn't board the plane.

Also can somebody explain please why he is being ASKED to sign the sex offenders register? What happens if he refuses to sign it? Can he refuse? if so what happens then?

I think he can refuse as he didn't commit the crime here? I'm not sure though. Maybe he has to do it.

I'm always torn with things like this and what the next steps are.

Watching the news last night it said he was going to sign..He should be made to do it, he was caught tried and convicted, although in another country, he poses a threat to society.
Would we not stop a known terrorist entering in, whether he had commited a crime in another country if he was deemed a threat to Britain.
Is there no way the Gov could ask for his citizenship of britain to be revoked, banish him from the island, worked years ago.

From BBC

Quote:
If Glitter does return to the UK, he will be met at the airport by police and required to sign the sex offenders register.

So he has served his time then. Who can say whether he still poses a threat or not or will try and do it again?

If the Government did that they would surely have to do it for everyone on the sex offenders register. You can't pick on him and him alone because he is famous.

There is a procedure by which a person may become Stateless but I think the individual must first declare himself so.

According to Wikipedia he was convicted of downloading child porn in 1999 and placed on the sex offenders register then. So why does he need to be placed on it again?

I'm confused

Good point Sooty. Does it come off after a certain amount of time for "minor" convictions. I've no idea how it works.

I’m not a fan of his, never have been, but I saw him performing live – and what a showman, he was sensational.

Back in the mid 80’s and Garry Glitter and the Glitter Band were booked to do a set for 18+ at a holiday camp weekend do’.

This was just one of bands booked for the weekend.

Anyway, I was employed by the site to look after the electrics so had to be present!

The audience, all teenagers were mostly indifferent to who was performing in the venue at the start of the evening.

Very likely so with it being just an aging 70’s glam rocker and his band, but he worked his show biz magic and they were rocking ‘in the aisles’ by the end of his set. .

Fancy throwing it all way like that.

What a Burk.

BBC NEWS | UK | Glitter catches Hong Kong flight
after reading this maybe i should have titled this thread, will he ever get here.I did not think he would have the right to refuse to come back, but seems now he will become one of many people in hong kong, they may decide to let him stay.Hope so.
Sorry i just cant stand people who hurt children in anyway, especially for their own pleasure.
