My theory is just don't get caught! Not that I don't drive at high speeds I DO but not around town. Besides the only time I got pulled over on the motorway for speeding, bat the baby blues ........got away unscathed with a warning. Thank you officer lol. A x

Popi- Yep, they see a camera, panic even if they are at the correct speed, cause a ripple effect behind and zoom off causing greater fuel consumption and greater risk of accidents.

Pudden- Absolutely. What is the greater hazard? I do not condone speeding, but that is not the real issue per se of road safety.

Karston- Yep, most I think are revenue generators. The fixed ones are one thing, the mobiles another.

I'll admit to something! I got my first speeding ticket in fifteen years recently. It was a mobile unit that took a lovely photo of me overtaking some cars. I paid my fine and got my first points in years.

I was photoed overtaking some cars on a straight with very few hazards- no excuse at all in the eyes of the law. I was sober, was a trainer of advanced driving skills, again no excuse.

The whole point of this is that I got done- and I really don't care about that. What I do care about is that these robots are taking over from proper policing and the real dangers that are out there on the road are not necessarily being addressed. The general level of driving in this country is better than many, but is lazy and sloppy. Cameras do nothing to address this
Oh Jezer, how I agree with you. I got nicked for speeding some three weeks back. I have no excuse. I was speeding in a 30mph zone which I thought was a 60 mph area. I was doing, according to the radar gun...54mph. I can have no complaints.......except.. the officers who were manning
TWO radar guns had been sent some 8 miles from a crime ridden town.
After all, it's easier to nick a motorist for speeding than to nick a burglar,

There is one final point I'd like to make. If a vehicle accident results in injury the police officer must file a report. Part of the report is what caused the accident. In only 4% of these reports is speed identified as the cause so ratiometically 96% of the budget should be spent on the other factors causing these injuries (poor maintainance, tiredness, poor road conditions and layout or just plain stupidity). I wonder how the percentages are really split up.

BTW I'm not grinding axes here I've never had a parking tickets and I have only ever had 1 speeding conviction in 1987.

all too easy. There are way too many areas which look like a dual carriage way...in fact are dual carriage ways, but some ebenezer scrooge type person has categorized it as residential because there's an overhanging twig.

That would be far too sensible, and expensive.

I understand this new generation of digital speed cameras store the images on a hard drive in a cabinet usually only a few metres from the camera, so it is this that should be targetted and not the camera unit. I gather they store a certain number and only then dial-up and transmit the images to central base.

It says 'He used chemicals he obtained from his welding job...' - that'll be thermite then. The ingredients for which are readily and legally available in most High Streets up and down the country.

In fact I have a couple of pounds of it in the shed at the moment...

Good job there ain't no cameras round here.
