Fiat Uno

The gearbox was so awful that 1st and 2nd gear were nearly very uncomfortable for a front seat passenger and third and fourth gear the same for the driver (NO FIFTH GEAR) the steering wheel could be turned at least three inches either way with no change in direction and main beam/dip switch was on the dashboard rather than the steering column .
It would not turn on a sixpence but more like just about get round a full size roundabout.

I remember being very pleased to be offered £350 in part x for it as I was getting close to just reversing it into the river.

Oh and did I forget to mention that the RAC threatened to suspend my membership because of too many call outs

I did 50 in a field once.

Took the wrong exit at a junction.

The worst must be a Bedford HA van I had many years ago. It was slow, noisy, hard to start, but the most annoying thing was that the gear lever used to come off in your hand whilst driving!

Though not the worst car I’ve driven, certainly the worst car I’ve owned, and that’s the one I’ve got now. A Fiat Stilo. It’s a lovely car let down by very bad design. Great for Motorways.

I needed a car that was not too cheap but not top end either for getting to work. I have to travel about 60 miles or so total each day. More if I do weekends or get sent to other sites. Anyway this looked a good option, but little did I know that there ain’t a Hayne’s car manual available for this car.

I like to know how to do some of the more run of the mill jobs myself.
Talk about a ‘cash cow’. This motor’s making a small fortune for the local, crappy, Fiat garage as only they have the gear to do the electronic diagnostics! No one else wants to know.

The final straw was a couple of weeks back when I had to take it in to have the near side head light bulb replaced. You might now be saying what a lazy sod but like I said this is one car to avoid.

The job is almost impossible (legendarily so) to do unless you have a ramp, assistance and are prepared to strip down the front end of the car to get access to the lamp cluster.

So it’s support front end, near side wheel off, arch splash guard out, battery and support frame out, front bumper off and if your luck you can now get in to change the bulb. And all this plus an hour’s waiting around for £62! Who’d have a Fiat? I know this one’s going and soon.

I used to love Fiats, but this was in the 1970s.

Stupid design feature as you say PnP, but is not unique to FIAT.

there have been a few

Morris Marina 1.3-held together with string and sellotape and the butt of many a joke over the years-actually, it was not too bad but it eventually died outside Euston Station during Friday night rush-hour in 1991 picking up girlfriend from the station

Alfa Romeo-hire car which i found out later had a faulty locking mechanism and the boot would suddenly fly open whilst driving

Ford Focus-hire car which i found out later had not been topped up with oil, had no filler cap and suddenly stopped on the M4 and there i stayed for 2 hours until the AA arrived and towed me home
