I have watched it many times over the years. The film is real, the car never definitively proven as far as most are concerned, Ferrari, Mercedes or otherwise.
Hmmm - my hubby loves listening to car engines, has been known to sit in the study, doors closed, listening to a CD of engine sounds.
Don't get it myself.
But C'etait une rendezvous is worth a watch, especially as it has the 'chick flick' ending!

"No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it. It's just that something happened to it along the way."
Big hint the engine sound was dubbed post film (as you can tell the car used was only available in a 3 speed automatic version but the sound track has at least 4 upshifts also when he hits the kerb while passing the dustcart in Rue Caulaincourt I think it is).
If you look carefully there is a strategically place people on the corner some of the junctions giving indications that the road is clear.
