Default Cuckoo!

I've just heard my first cuckoo of the year while out walking FP this evening. It was very vocal and very mobile and I didn't get to see it, however, I'm hoping it may stay in the locality as that's where we walk of an evening and I might get the chance to see as well as hear.

Lucky you, what part of the country are you in? Sadly I have to go on to Exmoor to hear it now.

Here's a really sad fact - I've never heard a cuckoo. No jokes, it's true!

You and millions of others no doubt,as you may know I live in rural Devon and as a kid the sound of the Cuckoo in the spring was a frequent and welcome sound.

I heard a cuckoo for the first time this year, this evening, too Lindy! We were in the garden and heard it.

This is a rhyme told to me many a moon ago,I think there maybe local variations to it.

"The Cuckoo comes in April
In May he sings all day.
In June he changes his tune.
In July He flies away."

Sounds good only if it's said in a yokel accent. Definitely something I'll mention to the grandkids when I'm on my deathbed!!

It's not a welcome sound at 5am!

Luckily we haven't heard one this year so far. The woods are very close to our bedroom and if it's warm with the window open... you get the picture.
