Default Hare today...

What an absolute delight this morning. There were six hares cantering round the field opposite me. Then...two of them started 'boxing'. Contrary to what everyone thinks, they aren't both males but a male and female doing a spot of courting.
Stunning spectacle whatever.

Are they a bit early or is the mad march hare just a myth?

Oh Arky, I envy you. I've only ever seen two hares in my entire life, and that was years ago, somewhere in the Cotswolds. Lucky you!

I wonder if I began boxing Sir Cumfrens in bed it might have the desired effect??

Just to make you all even more envious, I've just been watching nine fallow deer trotting across the field opposite..in that tiny herd was an albino deer. Wonderful.

Everything is pointing to an early spring again....the birds are starting to pair up and seek nesting places...plants in the garden are blooming early too. There have been several reports of frogspawn.
I just hope we don't have weather like last year, bluetits had one of the worst years on record for successful breeding...48% down on previous years. Sadly the ones in our garden were one of the fatalites through lack of insects at the time they bred...
