The Chinese always go a bit over the top but for this event they have excelled themselves. I notice that Princess Anne is there which makes me wonder why we don't have any other representatives. GW Bush is showing the flag as well despite his comments in Thailand earlier this week.

I am now waiting for the final entry of China who should be the last team to come into the stadium. I am expecting the final fireworks display to be the best of the day. The final lighting of the Olympic flame in the stadium is supposed to be something very special so we'll see how that goes.

I wonder where the evil looking monkey has gone?

GB isn't there for political reasons isn't it? And because he will be attending the closing ceremony. Was good to see the Princess Anne waving at the contestants!

Final fireworks are imminent!

What an absolutely fantastic finalé!! This is the biggest Olympic Flame I have ever seen. Talk about Global Warming - this will bung it up a couple of points and no mistake. The unrolling scroll above the stadium and the old guy running round was a superb bit of theatre.

Here's hoping for a really great games despite the fact that I am not what you might call a sporty person.

I do wonder what we can do in 2012 with everyone in goggles and face masks not forgetting gloves and safety shoes. There won't be fireworks, Health and Safety will see to that.

Of course we want to talk to you Evie. Games to actually watch, with the exception of football, don't seem to fit in well with the macho image which blokes like to project. I like watching golf, and crown green bowls, as well as playing; cricket is a bit of a downer these days, watching paint dry springs to mind. Now if we had Caber Tossing and Haggis Throwing on the telly things might look up. What we want in the Olympics is something like Caber Tossing or the "Stones" with a bit of highland dancing thrown in for good measure. Oh -- if you've got the wine open have a glass for me.
