Default Film Certification Ratings.

I've thought about this for some time and the ratings that films get in this country. What has prompted me to start this thread is a film that is being released in the UK next week called No Country For Old Men. I saw the trailer and the trailer is rated 'R' for restricted in the US. I was shocked by the violence shown and flabergasted when I found out that it is only rated 15 over here.

Check it out if you want to-

This thread is not about this film but on film classification in general, so let us hear your views.

I think film classifications started being a farce when they introduced "12A"

Half of the films that were 15s become 12As. Then the 18s become 15s. Not only are half of them unsuitable for the age group (IMO) but it ruins the enjoyment when you go to watch a film in a cinema and there are horrible kids there

I haven't seen the trailer to it Jezer, but I downloaded the film this afternoon so may possibly watch it later.

The way in which films obtain their ratings, IMHO, is wrong. Often with the ratings which they're given.

If I'd been able or even allowed to watch half of the 18cert films that I've now seen when I was only 15, I'd have been shocked, but not any longer. We've all been slowly desensitised to violence and gore, and as for morality, that flew out of the window a long time ago.
