Default What are your favourite films?

What are your favourite films?

I am a fan of Writer/Director Kevin Smith, I own all of his films but my favourite is his first film Clerks, which he made on a tiny budget in black and white after dropping out of film school, he made it in the shop he worked in, and the actors were mostly made up of his friends. I like it because of the simplicity of the setting and the dialogue reminds me of the kind of rubbish that I talk about with my friends (hopefully with less cursing though)

For years that was my favourite film but recently it has been sharing the top spot with V For Vendetta, which is a very powerful film starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. Weaving is the enigmatic V, a vigilante "anti-hero" who has a vendetta against the people who disfigured him and the opressive government running the country. He sees himself as a modern day Guy Fawkes. Portman is Evey, a young girl he rescues who helps him in return. This film is based on a graphic novel and is one of the better comic adaptations in my opinion.

What films do you love and why?

Titfield Thunderbolt - Quirky British Comedy at its best with all those fine british actors most of whom you've never heard of before or since

King of Hearts - French film set in WW1 where a group of soldiers are sent to scout a town before an attack but the only people they can find are escapees fron a local lunatic assylum. It's a brilliant anti-war film.

Fandango - Hilarious Buddie come Road movie as a group for college graduates prepare for marriage / war in 1970 America

Vanishing Point (the original) - The ultimate petrolhead muscle car movie. A burned out cop / race driver agrees to deliver a car to the other side of the States. The police have other ideas though.

There you go Sooty- car would have been a load of junk at the end of the journey!

YouTube - Vanishing Point (1971) - Trailer

I've got the DVD somewhere. Ronin is also quite good for petrolheads.

Titfield Thunderbolt is a classic. I'm a sucker for the Sunday Afternoon matinees (or as they used to be on BBC2 and Channel 4 a few years ago).

One of my favourites is The Empire of the Sun. Outstanding in my humble little opinion. It is also one of the few films I remember the name of. I have a shocking memory for things like that.
