New Egghead on "Eggheads"

Barry Simmons is the new egghead on BBC2's "Eggheads".

I am addicted to "Eggheads" and have to watch it every day. I had grave concerns about a new egghead being appended to the line-up.

As such, I followed the "Are You An Egghead" spin-off (search for a new egghead) with intense interest, but also with a sense of fear and foreboding.

But, all-in-all, I'm very happy that Barry Simmons is the new egghead.

He's intelligent, modest, interesting, polite, softly-spoken, self-effacing and fundamentally likeable.

Many of the other 31 "Are You An Egghead" hopefuls were none-of-the-above.

Well done Barry. Your persona is one which has failed to ruin my favourite late-afternoon BBC2 parlour game, for which I am greatly obliged.

He's not replacing anyone as such.

It allows the producers to rotate the team as they shoot five programmes in a day.

They were all very nice when I went on the programme yesterday.

It was recorded for transmission in March or April, red.

Sorry piglet, but we're sworn to secrecy regarding the actual show- really we are, in writing!

I can say that Daphne was not in their team, which is a shame because I was up against her in 15 to 1 a few years ago.
