Surely it would be simpler to just give them the answer? Although I can appreciate the whole thing about not having to know answers to things for day to day life.

Me too, but it would have been the death of my education, had it been available at the time. The temptation to surf random sites would have been too great!

The discipline that goes with revising for exams is surely something that should not be lost. Imagine a future generation with really short attention spans....

Kids today already have a far shorter attntion span than two generations of students ago. As for sattudying for exams, I know for a fact that most kids don't really study, just reread some bits. Reason?? They haven't been taught how to organise their material and revise properly. It was always a complaint of mine that study skills are not taught in a huge majority of schools. If the govt. really wants to improve exam results, IMO that is where they should start.

I can imagine what will be the knowledge of future children if every school follow this. When you will ask some question they will first check the web then answer. what an silly approach

While I agree that any examination which is purely based on memory is pointless (you can look up equations, dates and quotes) at Advanced level it is important that the questions should test mental dexterity i.e can you take a fact analyse, manipulate and combine to develop another.

So while I feel it's fine to look up the exact wording of something like Miranda's speech to Caliban on the net, I suspect it will actually be used to copy somebody else's critique and pass it off as your own work.

Children are brilliant at this sort of thing, they always find the method of solving problems which require the least work.
