What will happen with this? Will Russia pull out? Will we have a war?

I only hope it's shadow boxing when the US has other things on its mind.

So long as it is a Cold War and doesn't get overheated I don't particularly mind. However, I don't see the point in bashing the Russian Bear on the nose just for an egotistical buzz. Our politicians would do well not to get involved in Russian politics.

There does seem to be a stronger line from Moscow generally in recent times. The relationship between Moscow & London has been strained, and in the press at least decended into Carry-On style farce, what with the tit for tat expulsion of diplomats, the falling out with the British Council and will they won't they discussions about art collections being safe in London galleries

Perhaps Moscow feels the bear is not being given enough respect generally?

I do have to grimace at the amazingly public displsy of the most profound hypocrisy I have seldom if ever seen...the US thinks it is perfectly acceptable to go traipsing all over a sovreign country on a lie and a generation of fear and loathing, but immeditely start to propagandise the fear of a new Cold War because Russia is trying to control the historically rebellious country of Georgia. I am not meaning to take sides as to whether Russia has the moral mandate to do that...and to annex two areas that were Georgian, but the moral mandate is gobal, not just for western powers. Geese and ganders spring to mind...

As much as it seems that war will start, russia is only helping a town it considers its own. The people of ossetia have been with the russian side of things for many years, they see themselves as russian, and have had there electricty from russia since georgia pulled the plug..
Unfortunately it seems that the us have taken it upon thereselves to poke there nose in something that should have been left the russians and georgians to sort out, The ossetians want to remain under russias control as they get alot from russia, the georgians had no right to do what they did, eg, raiding villiages, killing innocent people, destroying homes, and think they could get away with it, no-one would notice, well i say let russia defend it and let the americans leave it to the powers to be on the eastern block..

I would not mess with the russian army..

Has anyone asked the Ossetians what they want?

IMO the rest is sabre-rattling. But I ws interested in something said by the head of UKIP on the Andrew Marr show this morning...that in his opinion the expansion of Europe and NATO so close to Russian borders is making Russia nervous. Now this throws up another question...if a country which is bordered by Russia wants to be in NATO (naturally as a form of protection against Russian moves to keep them undeer control) but it upsets Russia which starts to growl threateningly, should Europe and the West back off or should it continue to bring those counties into the West and risk Russian displeasure? Should Russia call the shots by threattening aggression or should the West stand up to it? (Remember, this is Putin we are talking about...)
