Default Republican VP???

Well John "oven chip" McCain has picked Sarah Palin for his running mate...an evangelical, gun-toting creationist who loves her family.
Be afraid. Very afraid. This woman is seriously extremist and dangerous. She may just hold the codes to nuclear destruction.

Oh God I hate this! U.S elections seem to go on forever. At least, in the UK it's all over in a couple of weeks. No sooner have you elected a President it all starts again. Isn't it all so cheap and tacky? Typical America! Why the BBC wastes so much licence payers money on it is beyond me.

As for Sarah Palin I don't read anything into it. In America you could dress Jack the Ripper in a dress (sorry pant suit) get him to shout 'girl power' and the women would all whoop, hollah and reach for their voting pencils (should that be crayons?).

No wonder America is in so much financial trouble but it does make the UK economy look positively booming. As for the nuclear codes, well JW's had them for years. Hopefully Palin won't know what they are for either.

Sorry Adam..VBG is very big grin. I am used to writing to forums which don't have all those cute smilies...

I did hear a couple of days ago that she is pro-life even in cases of rape and incest. She would like to see all abortion outlawed in the US and I heard an interview with many women Republicans who are dismayed at such an extremist stance.

I agree that exposure is important. Apparently overt 80% of the non-American Western world hope Obama succeeds. But America seems to have become far more extreme in its conservatism (witness the huge growth in fundamental religious expression and its influence on politics...a Constitutional breach) and that is worrying for the west who are unable to unhook itself from the US influence.
Razzmatazz aside (McCain going on about his revelations while prisoner 40 years ago etc) it is worrying that America can even consider such a ticket.

I listened to both Palin and McCain and I think she is likely to be Americas answer to Maggie Thatcher. When she decribes herself as a "Hockey Mom" and tells everyone the only difference between her and a Pit Bull is Lipstick it makes you think. McCain and his Vietnam prisoner experiences may pull in some sympathy votes but, on the other hand, Vietman is still a hot issue with many Americans. They don't seem to give a s**t about troops they lost in WW2 but Vietnam -- that's a different kettle of fish. The fact that Obama hasn't any war scars was a pretty low kick by McCain. The thing which amuses me most is that our elections raise as much dust in the USA as a flea falling into a bag of flour.
